The Podium Project

Raise the bar for student-athletes by building the country's best ski and snowboard training venue right here at Sugarloaf.
The Podium Project, a collaborative vision launched in 2022, endeavors to provide optimal training opportunities to athletes with the passion to pursue their dreams. Together we are fostering friendships, instilling a lifelong love of winter sports, and supporting competitive athletes of all ages.

The Podium Project is the result of a partnership between CVA, the Sugarloaf Ski Club, Colby, and the University of Maine at Farmington. The project took two excellent training hills, Narrow Gauge and Competition Hill, to the next level by installing state-of-the-art snowmaking, expanding hill space, and installing a high-speed surface lift.

The CVA/Colby T-bar opened in December of 2022. The venue is now named the Beth Kubik Training Venue.

Beth Kubik Training Venue

Beth Kubik’s sister Anne, her family, and CVA are raising funds within the wider Podium Project campaign to name the new training venue in honor of Beth, and permanently endow the venue to ensure it provides exceptional training opportunities for generations to come. Beth passed away in 2022 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Beth was an accomplished junior ski racer and a member of the women's alpine ski team at Colby College, where she graduated in 1990. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Maine. At her private practice in Yarmouth, Maine, Beth helped hundreds of people who suffered with anxiety disorders. As avid skiers, Sugarloaf has held a special place in Beth and her family's lives. Beth was happiest out on the slopes with her family and friends.

Our goal is to raise $750,000 for the venue naming and its endowment. $500,000 has been raised to date.
Raising the bar means raising $2 Million.
Help define the future of training at CVA.

1974: SRSEF Head Coaches Jeff Lathrop and Peter Smith continue to advocate for a dedicated training lift.

1975: SRSEF Foundation President Larry Mahany proposes a dedicated training lift and trail widening to create alpine and mogul training venues.

1979: Cutting begins for the first phase of Competition Hill from Tote Road Crosscut to the bottom of Kangaroo Hill (the current Peavy X-cut).
